What is Subsidy Password ?

The term Subsidy Password is used by Motorola to refer to the 8 or 16 digit unlock code that is necessary to remove the operator lock (also known as subsidy lock) from Motorola mobile phones. This code is randomly assigned to each motorola cell phone by the Motorola on request of the cell phone operators and prevents use of the cell phone on a cell phone network other than that to which the phone was originally locked.

The term "subsidy" refers to the subsidization of cell phones sold to customers that purchase mobile phones as part of a contract with the mobile service operator. Many network operators provide these subsidies as an incentive for users to sign extended contracts, and use the subsidy lock as a means of protecting their investment. The installation of such locks means that users often are forced to purchase a different phone if they decide to switch their network (of advantage to both the manufacturer and Wireless service provider).

What is Subsidy Lock ?

Subsidy Lock prevent the phone from using a SIM from different service provider other than the one purchased.
If another service provider's SIM card is inserted, the user must enter the subsidy code before using the phone.

What is Phone Lock (User Lock) ?

User lock or Security lock protect the handset from unauthorized users.
Phone lock or User lock should not be confused with Subsidy Lock (Service Provider Lock) or Network Lock.
These locks can be enabled on a Locked or Unlocked Phone. these locks can also be used with any SIM regardless of the Service Provider or SIM Card manufacturer.

What is PIN Code ?

The PIN (Personal Identification Number) code protects SIM card against unauthorized use.
The PIN Code is provided by the service provider at the time of purchase SIM card.

What is PUK Code ?

If the PIN code is entered 3-10 times incorrectly, then the SIM's lock status is changed to PUK (Pin Unlock Key) lock.
In this case, a PUK code must be entered. PUK code is also provided by Service provider when SIM is purchased.

What is Motorola mobile phone unlocking via IMEI ?


Motorola unlocking via IMEI service are based on retrieving subsidy password from appropriate databases using phone's imei number, instead of using software or hardware to unlock motorola phones.

What is IMEI and where can I obtain it ?

Every GSM cell phone has an IMEI number. IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) is the a 15 digit serial number

for your mobile phone to properly identify it. You can read your IMEI number by pressing *#06# on your mobile phone or you can find it on the sticker under the phone battery.

How does unlocking via subsidy password work ?

Once you obtain your subsidy password, you simply insert a sim SIM from a different wireless carrier and enter unlocking code when prompted and your phone will be unlocked instantly.

How to remove Enter Subsidy Password message ?

To remove "enter subsidy password" message from the phone, you should obtain unique subsidy password for your phone (You may order subsidy password for your phone on our home page).
After obtaining this password for the phone, you should follow these easy steps.

  1. Switch on your phone with a SIM Card from another cell phone operator.
    (if the phone accepts only T-Mobile, you may use a SIM from Vodafone, AT&T .etc).
  2. You should receive Enter Subsidy Password message on the display.
  3. Enter the Subsidy Password you have obtained.
  4. Your phone should be unlocked now!

What is the "Contact Service Provider" message ?

Contact Service Provider message indicates that wrong subsidy codes have been entered!

How to Remove "Contact Service Provider" message ?

To remove contact service provider message from the phone, Leave your phone Powered on between 1 to 24 hours until Enter Subsidy password message displayed again (Phone should be powered on during this time).
